What If Waste Could Become Something Valuable Without Burning?

Waste Valorisation: Cracking, Not Burning

Entity 1 Value Emission’s Ramacharan Cold Plasma Pyrolysis Reactor (RCPPR) cracks waste instead of combusting it.

In a recent demonstration, it processed 10 consecutive batches of mixed, unsorted urban waste at around 300–400°C, converting plastics, tyres, food waste and other municipal inputs into recoverable liquid, solid carbon and process gas, without combustion ash.

How Cold Plasma Changes Waste Processing

Cold plasma creates highly reactive species that break larger waste molecules into smaller, usable compounds without relying on a conventional flame.

The objective is simple: recover value from waste instead of burning it away.

Designed for Real-World Mixed Waste

The demonstration used mixed waste including wet and dry waste, plastics, tyres, food residues, coconut shells and flowers.

Across all ten batches, the system produced recoverable outputs with no combustion ash residue, while potentially reducing the need for extensive sorting and pre-processing.

From Waste to Usable Products

Recovered outputs can have multiple applications.

Plastic and tyre waste: Hydrocarbon liquids for industrial fuels or chemical feedstocks.

Organic waste: Bio-oil and carbon for biochar, filtration, adsorption or energy applications.

Process gas: Can potentially be reused within the reactor to support energy requirements.

Waste enters as a disposal problem and leaves as potentially useful material.

Why Zero Ash Matters

Incineration and RDF depend on combustion, creating emissions and ash that require further treatment.

Cold-plasma pyrolysis operates without conventional combustion, allowing the solid fraction to remain as recoverable carbon instead of ash.

A Different Cost Model

Conventional waste treatment can involve segregation, drying, pollution control, transportation, ash handling and landfill costs.

Cold plasma aims to reduce several of these steps while creating recoverable products with potential commercial value.

Cracking Waste at the Source

The technology also has potential for decentralised waste processing, allowing waste to be treated closer to where it is generated.

This could reduce transportation requirements and create a more efficient model focused on processing, recovery and reuse.

Ten Runs, One Consistent Direction

Across 10 consecutive mixed-waste batches, the result remained consistent: waste was converted into liquid, carbon and process gas rather than combustion ash.

Crack it. Recover it. Put its value back to work.
